Can PhpBB3 be integrated into Social Engine?

I know there is a forum plugin, but I would rather use PhpBB3. I have it set up on a separate domain at the moment. Is there any way to incorporate PhpBB3 into Social Engine in place of the plugin?

Why would you like to use PhpBB3? It's a big script with separate registration/login/admin panel, etc. Just imagine how many difficulties you will get: problems with upgrades (including security patches), complex user administration, support, compatibility with other plugins, core changes, etc. Standard SocialEngine forum plugin is not so bad. Also there were few more forum modifications for SocialEngine
What features will you need from forum? Maybe it will be easier to improve current SE forum?
